The Clonmore Lodge 5km looped walk/run or cycle
Brief Description
Follow the quiet country roads towards the coast and back. The terrain is suitable for buggies and cyclists. There is an optional stop at a lovely secluded beach where you can watch Atlantic rollers crash against the coast or indulge in a spot of beach-angling. You’ll have views of the Aran Islands, the Cliffs of Moher and County Clare’s largest mountain, Mount Callan.
Route Directions
As you step out from Clonmore Lodge, facing the sea turn left along the road.
Continue straight through the crossroads, there is a white cottage on your right hand side.
Follow the road then take first right hand turn. You are now heading south west towards the coast.
This is a single track road, weather permitting you’ll have views on your right of Tromra Castle, Mutton Island, the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands. At the top of rise, there are beautiful sea views. The stone walls and bramble hedges provide a natural wind break.
At a T junction, take a right turn. You’ll pass a large orange house on your right after 200mtrs. The road heads downwards towards a small cluster of farm buildings and houses. Follow the road as it veers sharply right.
Beach detour
As you approach the houses you will have the opportunity to head to the beach: Take the left hand turn, there are houses on your right hand side (the first house is painted Cream and Red) and 20 mtrs further along the road there is a road sign showing a 15 kmph speed limit. Follow this road for 400 mtrs. It will end at the beach or sea depending on the tide. Return the same way.
As you return to the junction, take the left turn then almost immediately follow the road as it veers sharply right.
Follow the road towards a crossroads, on the right hand side is Mount Callan and the sea on your left.

This is a straight road with slight incline which will take you directly back to Clonmore Lodge. You’ll have a great view of Tromra Castle on your Left and Mount Callan directly ahead.
